Description

Join NYC Youth Leaders to imagine the abolition of youth punishment and carceral systems in NYC and the creation of a new future. OPEN UP THE CAGES! Understanding NYC Youth Punishment is a gathering of community curated by the Peer Defense Project in an effort to politically educate New Yorkers on how the youth punishment and carceral systems operate and how we can wage a path towards abolition. Our summit will feature a groundbreaking panel on movement lawyering, an enthralling presentation on abolition, and a heartfelt screening of On These Grounds. Additionally, our program will feature two pop-ups: legal and community. The legal pop-up will feature pro-bono attorneys and legal advocates listening to legal issues and providing referrals for legal services. The community pop-up will feature Youth BIPOC-owned vendors and community organizations tabling with resources. **IN PERSON** Open Up The Cages!
