Description

Press release from the City of Westminster: Posted on: December 5, 2020 Today, Saturday, December 5, as they have done for several months now, a group of peaceful demonstrators rallied together in downtown Westminster to exercise their Constitutional rights: freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and to petition the government. The City has welcomed their presence in our downtown to express their views. After the rally, walking home from the event, a City resident was injured in an unprovoked attack. This behavior is unacceptable in our City. The Mayor and Common Council hereby reaffirm Westminster's commitment to the right of citizens to gather peacefully to express their views, and in doing so to be free from fear of retribution or violence. We recognize the pandemic, and the ongoing economic crisis have contributed to strains in our community and personal lives. Nonetheless, there is no excuse for violence, and it will not be tolerated or excused. The Police Department has identified the individual involved, and is applying for charges. We wish a speedy recovery to our injured City resident. 410-848-9000 This press release was produced by the City of Westminster. The views expressed here are the author's own.
