NEW YORK CITY — A slashing attack and intrusion at a Bronx school that left staff injured appears to be rooted in a domestic dispute, police said. Many details about the Thursday morning attack are still scant beyond what Mayor Eric Adams outlined before a major announcement on the citywide expansion of gifted and talented programs. Adams said a person tried to enter P.S. 69 in The Bronx and assault a staff member. "A heroic act by a school safety agent prevented it from taking place," he said. The safety agent was slashed in the attack, Adams said. NYPD officials said the agent — a man — received a slash wound to his neck or the back of his left ear. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment. Police took a 23-year-old man into custody on accusations he carried out the attack. He appears to have been in a domestic dispute with a staff member, authorities said. Charges are pending, police said. Two school staff were also injured in the assault, but NYPD couldn't confirm details as of Thursday morning.
