NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Former Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano was sentenced to 12 years in prison today on public corruption charges, according to Newsday. His wife, Linda, was sentenced to 15 months in jail. Edward Mangano will also have to pay a $20,000 fine. Prosecutors were seeking a sentence of 17.5 years for Mangano and 2.5 years for his wife. Mangano, 60, was convicted in 2019 of a string of charges related to accepting bribes in his position as Nassau County executive. Linda, 59, was found guilty about lying to the FBI about a no-show job she had. "From the moment he was elected, Edward Mangano sold himself and his office. Hecashed in the power, the resources and the influence of his office to enrich himself andhis wife," said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace. "For Ed Mangano, public service was self-service. He received bribes in the form of vacations, an expensive watch, furniture and hardwood flooring for his house. And, most notably, a $100,000-a-year no-show job for his wife, Linda Mangano. "Simply put, Edward Mangano is going to jail for brazenly abusing the power of his officeas the top elected official of Nassau County," Peace continued. "He is going to jail for betraying not only the people who elected him, but every resident of Nassau County who believes thatgovernment is supposed to do good, make our lives better and serve our communities honestly and without public officials lining their pockets with taxpayers' hard-earned money." As part of the bribery scheme, Mangano pressured the Town of Oyster Bay into backing $20 million in loans for restaurateur Harendra Singh, who was bribing the Manganos. Linda Mangano was paid $450,000 for no work by restaurateur Harendra Singh over the years her husband was in office as Nassau County Executive.
