MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Burlington man was arrested and charged with robbery after he threatened to shoot a cashier at a hardware store in Hamilton, police said Wednesday. Michael Swift, 70, was arrested Tuesday and was charged with robbery, police said. On April 7, at 11:50 a.m. police were sent to the Ace Hardware store on Route 33 on reports of a robbery. Police were told that a man approached a register with a note, which he gave to the cashier. The note said that the man had a gun in his pocket which he aimed at the cashier, police said. When the cashier said she did not have the key to the register, the man threatened to shoot her, police said. The cashier began to scream and he fled the store. The Hamilton Police Department collaborated with Mount Laurel Police Department and identified a suspect. On April 12, police obtained a search warrant for the suspect's vehicle and residence which was located in Burlington, authorities said. Swift was arrested at his residence, police said.
