Putting together a progressive bluegrass or alt-country situation

Description

So, I am a fiddler, and I am looking to find some other folks who think they have some cool stuff to say and want to put together a band with some cool people. I am not the greatest player around. Matter of fact, I would consider myself an advanced intermediate fiddler. I don’t play super fast, but I’m pretty clean, and I learn new stuff all the time. I AM NOT the virtuoso who plays 64 notes per measure and plays circles around everyone. I AM the thoughtful player who plays in tune and with feeling. Ditto for the singing. I can sing on pitch-no shit-but I do not think my voice is particularly interesting. I can also sing harmony. I AM NOT the charismatic lead singer. I can play a little mandolin: I WILL NOT be able to rip a “Long Journey Home” solo at 250 BPM; I can keep time, and think I can do so in interesting ways; I can write cool/catchy/nasty licks and contribute with a mandolin. I can play a little guitar. As above, I can not play super fast solos or super-complicated-diminished chord stuff, but I can write cool chord progressions and play them in interesting and creative ways. I AM NOT your lead guitarist; I could be the Patterson to your Cooley, the Malcolm to your Angus. If pressed, I can play a tiny bit of banjo. As in, I can roll tastefully behind other instruments, but I will never be the reason a banjo player overhearing me says “Damnnnnn, that dude is crazy good.” This is what I think would be cool: Guitar: Acoustic and/or electric. I am cool with almost any possibility, as long as we can work a fiddle or a mandolin into it. Distortion is cool, a la warm overdrive and pushed tubes, but I can’t do the Slayer thing. More Fender than Mesa Boogie, if you catch my drift. Vocals: Ideally, I’d like to share with someone else. I am comfortable singing, but the project I am looking for would probably have more than one singer. I am perfectly happy to sing harmony. Bass: Y’all are hard to find, but I kinda envision a bass player. Standup? That’d be cool. NOT standup? Cool also. Probably not gonna be the funkiest band ever, but Dude, I love me some groove. Something else: Dobro? cool idea. Mandolin would be nice, especially if you do fiddle tunes. Banjo? Duh. I’d love to work with a good banjo player. Fiddle? Dude, trust me when I say I’d be cool if I was the SECOND best player in the band. I am into progressive bluegrass, outlaw country, punk, rock and hard rock; especially into alt-country. This project will probably reflect those influences, along with whatever you bring. NOT into metal (love listening, don’t want to play it), not into jazz. Probably worth mentioning that I am trying to do this without a drummer. Nothing against drummers, but I am sort of looking at the challenge of keeping time and playing rhythm in creative ways. Drummer who plays mandolin? That’d be f-ing awesome. I have some songs, I have some PARTS of songs, I really would like to work with someone(s) to see if we can figure something out. So, give it a thought. You never know.
