Hello all,
I am interested in playing extremely heavy and extremely slow. Heavy music at its best can be an outlet to process and tackle the inherent darkness of the human condition, and despite the general demographics of most heavy music scenes, that darkness is in no way exclusive to white dudes like myself. I'm looking to start a band which is inclusive of all who want to tackle the darkness sonically. All who have this interest are encouraged to apply regardless of gender/gender expression/sexuality/race/etc, unless you 'back the blue' or are just a little too into viking/norse imagery, if you know what I mean.
About myself - I am a 38yo bassist (plus possible vocalist) with a post-graduate degree and good employment. I have a background in college intro-level music theory and my parents are professional classical musicians. It isn't important to me that you have a similar background, but I would ask that you have somewhat reliable gear and take making music seriously. I would much prefer band-mates without hard drug habits, due to past experiences with missing gear and cancelled shows.
I would be interested in forming a group with a flexible once-per-week-ish practice schedule with the goal to play a show per month at some point in the future, but would have the expectation that people spend time writing and practicing in between these points. I have rudimentary recording equipment (Macbook + Logic, Apogee Duet, a couple mics) to multi-track demos so if you also have that ability we could write remotely and just come together to rehearse. I have a rudimentary electronic drumkit in my apartment for low-volume practice if needed.
The only critical role I need to recruit for would be a drummer, after which we could add guitars/vocalists or any other instruments really, depending on the available pool of people who respond to this.
My musical touchstones for this project are: Om (to a lesser degree Sleep), Sunn O))), Emptyset, Tomoko Sauvage, Toshimaru Nakamura
