ELMHURST, IL – Two Elmhurst University faculty members have begun transforming a long brick wall on the north end of campus into a mural, the school announced in a news release Thursday. The mural – "Be Bold. Be Elmhurst" – will be on a north-facing wall of R.A. Faganel Hall on Park Avenue, the school said. The creators are Elmhurst University art faculty members Rafael Blanco and Andrew Sobol. The artists have been planning the project for the last couple of years. The university said the men consulted frequently with the city to make sure the proposed designs complied with the city's mural ordinance, according to the release. The ordinance bars murals that could be viewed as advertising. Last month, university students, faculty and staff voted on four designs. More than 775 votes were cast, with the "Be Bold. Be Elmhurst" message receiving more than half, the school said. "We already share a name with the community," Sobol said in the release, "so we think this phrase really does it all."
