Press release from the City of Grand Rapids: April 05, 2022 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The deceased person in the officer-involved shooting that occurred on April 4 is Patrick Lyoya, age 26. Chief Winstrom met with Mr. Lyoya's family earlier today. Per Grand Rapids Police Department policy, the Michigan State Police are investigating. Standard practice allows for MSP's criminal investigation to conclude before GRPD's internal affairs unit will begin conducting their administrative review. The Office of Oversight and Public Accountability is monitoring the investigations and will review any findings. GRPD still anticipates the release of video next week.
