HAMDEN, CT — The Hamden 12U Little League team cruised to the state championship title with a 12-1 victory over Montville Sunday afternoon in Stamford. The traditional Little League World Series was canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, making the state tournament the signature event for Little League players this season. Hamden went undefeated in the double-elimination tournament, beating Wallingford and Montville twice en route to the title. Hamden beat Wallingford 5-2 in its opening game on Oct. 3 and edged Montville 6-5 the next day. Montville beat Wallingford 4-2 on Saturday to advance to the championship game on Sunday. Montville needed to beat Hamden twice on Sunday to claim the championship, but Hamden made sure the second game wouldn't be necessary by jumping out to a quick lead. The game was stopped after four innings by the Mercy Rule. Sean Figueroa and Nate Marczak both hit home runs to lead Hamden's 11-hit attack, according to the New Haven Register. Marczak also pitched all four innings and allowed only one hit. Read more about the championship game at the New Haven Register here.
