Our facility provides haul-out and maintenance services and specializes in extensive refits of classic wooden yachts. Along with significant reconstruction projects, we also build custom-designed cold-molded boats. About Us Koehler Kraft Company, Inc., established in 1938, is San Diego's oldest boatyard. Koehler Kraft offers a full range of services for all types of modern and classic boats, from routine maintenance to major repairs or refits. We are conveniently located right in the heart of America’s Cup Harbor on Shelter Island, offering an ideal live/work situation. Our 25,000 square foot yard and 9,000 square foot boat shed allow us to work on various projects at once. Job Description We are seeking a motivated and organized individual to join our boatyard team. You will be applying marine coatings (epoxy primers and anti fouling) to boats. This includes surface preparation and some repair work. You will need to be skilled in the use of tools such as an angle grinder, DA sander, scrapers etc. Familiarity with marine paint systems a plus. Will consider training the right person. Job Requirements You must have 5 years minimum experience working as a tradesman in a boatyard. Must have all tools for the trades listed above. Ability to lift heavy items such as boat stands & blocking in different positions. Able to work on hands and knees for long periods of time. Ability to climb ladders and stairs, lift to 50 pounds consistently, and get on/off in and around boats of varying sizes Ability to work outdoors in all conditions Willingness to learn and advance knowledge and skills Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact positively with people Strong work ethic and leadership skills, self-starter, solving problems independently, and desire to work as a member of a fast-paced team. Communicate effectively within the department to create an effective team atmosphere. Be technically sound in operating various material handling equipment. Haul/launch vessels utilizing the crane, cradles, trailers, and boat stands. Be skilled in maintaining and using pressure washers or other small equipment. Follow environmental protocol for washing vessels and maintaining the wash pad filter system. Clean and prepare inside or outside work areas allowing smooth transitions between projects. Be willing to contribute to other departments in various capacities to aid project goals. Erect various scaffolding, staging, ladders, and other working surfaces to provide access to work areas. Adhere to company standards for safety and environmental compliance in material handling, protective equipment, working at height, and all other areas. Salary / Benefits The salary is negotiable depending on skills and qualifications. However, individuals with a strong attitude, willingness to advance their career and high motivation levels can expect to be promoted and earn top pay with performance bonuses.
