Rape In Towson Restaurant After Hours Leads To Charges: Police

TOWSON, MD — A man charged with rape in Towson is being held without bail. Police said he worked at a restaurant on Allegheny Avenue where a woman was sexually assaulted. Mehdi Eghbal, 48, of no fixed address has been charged with second-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault. Authorities said they were called before 1 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, for a sexual assault at Z Burger in the unit block of Allegheny Avenue. According to police, Eghbal was an employee there and invited a woman into the restaurant, which was closed at the time, then he sexually assaulted her once she was inside. Her friends had been using a cell phone application to find her and called 911 when they saw her leaving the restaurant, authorities reported. Officers found Eghbal in the basement and arrested him, police said. He was served with a warrant for failing to appear in 2017 for driving on a revoked, out-of-state license. He is slated to appear for a bail review hearing at 1 p.m. on Monday in Baltimore County District Court.
