Hamden Receives $574K In Additional State Funding For Schools

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden will receive more than $570,000 in additional state funds to offset costs related to school operations during the coronavirus pandemic, State Representative Mike D'Agostino (D-91) announced Tuesday. D'Agostino drafted a letter in September, which the Hamden state legislative delegation joined, requesting the additional funds from the Connecticut State Department of Education. Gov. Ned Lamont and his administration have now approved an additional $574,000 for Hamden, bringing the total allocation to more than $1.1 million, according to D'Agostino. "We are incredibly grateful to the Governor and his staff, especially Chief of Staff Mounds and Education Commissioner Cardona, for reviewing Hamden's plan and providing the additional funding," D'Agostino said. "The district's plan evolved significantly after its initial funding request in an effort to provide a safe classroom education consistent with the Governor's goals. Like the Governor and his team, the Hamden school district has been doing an incredible job in challenging circumstances and it is only by working together like this that we will get through this pandemic." Hamden Superintendent of Schools Jody Ian Goler thanked D'Agostino for "his tremendous support to help ensure the district could adequately meet the COVID-19 challenges before us."
