HAMDEN, CT — Police responded to two attempted street robberies and one armed robbery within 30 minutes early Monday morning in Hamden. The first incident happened around 6:50 a.m. when police responded to 2300 Dixwell Ave. on the report of "suspicious activity," according to Capt. Ronald Smith. An employee of a local business was getting out of her vehicle when a "small white vehicle" parked next to her, according to Smith. A suspect, described as a young black man around 14 to 16 years old wearing a "puffy coat," got out of the vehicle and demanded her personal items, Smith said. The woman refused and entered her work. Then at 7:04 a.m., police responded to 1941 Dixwell Ave. on the report of an "armed street robbery." A customer was pumping gas when they were approached by a suspect, described as a young black man in his teens, wearing a mask and a puffy coat, according to Smith. The suspect got out of a white vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim. Nothing was taken from the victim, according to Smith. Then at 7:18 a.m., police responded to 2045 Dixwell Ave. on the report of an "armed street robbery." The victim told police that a man got out of the backseat of a white vehicle and pointed a gun at him. His wallet was stolen in the robbery, according to Smith. A woman was also robbed in North Haven early Monday morning by a suspect who got out of a white SUV. The victim said she didn't have anything and the suspect left the scene and fired one round, shattering her vehicle's rear window, according to North Haven police. North Haven detectives believe the shot was fired from a BB gun and the white SUV is linked to other robberies/carjackings that happened in Hamden and New Haven on Monday morning. North Haven police said the vehicle was found unoccupied in New Haven on Monday morning. Anyone with information regarding the Hamden incidents, is asked to call Det. Andrew Lipford at 203-230-4055.
