HAMDEN, CT — Police responded to two armed robberies within 15 minutes Monday night in Hamden, according to police. The first robbery was reported at 8:15 p.m. on Savoy Street and involved a gun being fired, according to Capt. Ronald Smith. The victim, a 22-year-old Hamden resident, was standing next to his newly purchased vehicle when he was approached by a man who demanded the keys to the car, Smith said. The victim ran and the man fired a shot at him, according to Smith. No one was injured and the suspect possibly left the area in a stolen Hyundai Elantra, Smith said. Police believe the suspect or suspects drove to the area in the stolen vehicle; the victim's new vehicle wasn't stolen. The suspect was described as 17 to 18 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, with a thin build and a high-top haircut. He was wearing dark clothing, police said. Then at 8:28 p.m., police responded to a North Street residence for a report of an armed robbery. The 61-year-old victim parked his vehicle in his driveway and while seated inside, a man approached the driver's side window and pointed a gun at the victim's head and demanded money, according to Smith. The man searched the victim's clothing and another man opened the passenger door, according to Smith. They then stole a work bag and the keys to the victim's vehicle, Smith said. The victim was not injured.
