TAKOMA PARK, MD — Hundreds of people ignored social distancing rules and lined up outside MegaMart in Takoma Park Friday for a free food giveaway. Long lines wrapped around the strip mall as customers waited for free food. Some people, according to multiple news outlets, waited in line for several hours. Police eventually arrived on the scene to help supermarket staff with crowd control. The owner of the store, Yoni Lopez, told FOX 5 DC that he was holding the giveaway to help out the community during the coronavirus pandemic.
