Description
Work trade is available in exchange for a furnished room on a farm in Makawao. We have an opening for one (1) person to do work-trade on our farm. Sorry, but we only have space available for one person only. No couples. No pets. ****************** What you get: ****************** We will provide you with a furnished private bedroom, bathroom, basic food staples from Costco, and fruit and vegetables from the farm, in exchange for 25 hours of work per week. ****************** Work you will be doing: ****************** * Helping with aquaponics * Fertilizing * Propagating seedlings * Planting starters * Pruning * Weeding (experience with gas string trimmers a plus) * Maintaining weed mat, drip lines, and sprinklers * General labor * Ability to lift more than 40 abs * Be ok with cats and dogs ****************** This is an ideal work-trade situation for: ******************* * Someone that is already on Maui, on a neighbor island, or has prior living experience in Hawaii. * Someone who has their driver's license and their own transportation. (Walking, hitchhiking or public transportation are not an option) * Someone who has some experience with farming, landscaping, construction, and/or mechanics. If you don’t have experience in any of these areas, then it's probably not a great fit. * Someone that understands what it means to put in a full day of work and how it feels to finish a job. * Someone that understands how to listen to directions for a project and can then follow through with the project. * Someone that is a good communicator and who isn’t afraid to ask questions when they don’t know what they are doing or for anything they need. * Someone that has common sense. * Someone that has a phone and a general understanding of technology * Someone that can get along with other farmworkers, volunteers, and people in general - (but introverts welcome!) * Ideally, someone who has another job or who is a student and who is looking to subsidize their rent by doing work-trade on a wonderful farm in order to have a nice place to live. ****************** Things you need to know about living on the farm ****************** The farm is an extension of our family and we have kupuna on the property, so we have pretty rigid rules. * No drama * No smoking * No drugs * No dates * No guests * No pesticides or round-up, etc are used on the farm * Sorry, but yes, you must be vaccinated. We respect your personal choice if you have decided to not get vaccinated, and we appreciate you respecting our choice to protect our kupuna. ****************** If you are interested… ****************** * Please reply with details about yourself? Your skills? * How long you have been on Maui? * Do you have transportation? * Why are you looking to do a work trade? * Have you ever done a work trade before? When? Where? * How long are you looking to do a work trade for? * Please add your website and/or social media links that you have (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) * Please include your phone number and email address so we can follow up with you * Very Important * Sorry, but one line and short responses will be discarded. You don’t need to write a book and your spelling and grammar don’t need to be great, but please do tell us enough information in your email so we can get a feel if you will be a good fit for this work trade opportunity. Mahalo!
