I’ve worked in various coffeeshops since my college years. I’ve worked everything from Starbucks to local spots and I’ve been an avid coffee drinker for just as long. I joined POKE LLC in the spring of 2021. Outside of the coffee business, I am a filmmaker and aspiring novelist, but such pursuits cannot truly exist outside of coffee’s influence. Randy Odom, Partner at POKE LLC During my 38 years of employment as an Information Technology (I.T.) Specialist, my passion was serving with Gospel mission teams in remote parts of the world. Most of my vacations were spent improving health care and quality of life in indigenous communities. Some of these cultures were quite primitive. Upon retirement, I needed a hobby. Nathan and I founded POKE LLC on January 10, 2020 (incorporation date) to bring superior quality coffees to the U.S.A. For several years now, one of my ministry partners in Colombia has been building positive relationships with an isolated tribe through fair trade. Missionaries there have established a church, which must meet in secret because of persecution. To the Arhuacos, harvesting coffee is an essential part of their lives, and they grow what is considered by some experts to be the best beans in the country - perhaps the finest on earth! In addition to coffee and Gospel missions, I enjoy taking long walks in the great outdoors. It is a private time for me to clear my head and collect my thoughts. I also enjoy classic movies. Some of my all-time favorites include: "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "The Ten Commandments", "Ben-Hur", and "End of the Spear". Nathan Valdes, Partner at POKE As an avid coffee drinker, I have spent several years studying and learning the ins and outs of the coffee trade through trips to coffee bean farms in Central America, projects in college, and simply meeting different professionals in the business. With my education background in Marketing and my fundamental work experience in the food industry and sales, Randy and I founded Prince of Kings Enterprises LLC to promote mission based coffee from Colombia. When I am not working my day job or doing work for POKE LLC, I enjoy reading business and theology books, writing, spending time with my wife, family, and church family on Sundays and throughout the week.
