Tour Selux's state-of-the-art factory located in Highland, NY and earn 2 LUs/HSW Join us for an exclusive tour and seminar of Selux's state-of-the-art factory in Highland, NY. Transportation from Albany and lunch will be provided. "Understanding the Importance of Dark Skies" 1 LU/HSW (Credits Pending) Excessive and unrestricted light can negatively impact people, animals, and the environment. However, fixtures that are designed to Dark Sky specifications can dramatically reduce the amount of sky glow and light pollution while reducing energy consumtion and mitigating impact on the environment. Explore the concept of Dark Sky and how you can specify luminaires to help reduce light pollution and encourage a healthier and more responsible approach to lighting. Learning Objectives: Explain what Dark Skies mean and how we are losing hem Describe how, he loss of dark skies impacts humans, animals, and the environment Identify Dark Sky Friendly features in a luminaire List dark sky organizations, programs and regulations that impact the design of lighting for homes and communities Discuss the importance of incorporating Dark Sky Friendly design into modern lighting Selux Factory Tour 1 LU/HSW (Credits Pending) Explain the testing process for luminaires, including: UL ratings for fire and safety; IP tests to determine if dust and water will enter the luminaire; Vibration testing for bridges and high traffic areas; and Impact and vandal resistance Identify the process for generating project specific drawings which are transferred to the factory on a computerized system and used to build the luminaires to the exact designer’s specification Describe all of the components which go into both exterior and interior fixtures and how they are processed from raw materials and through a series of stages are transformed into finished luminaries. Illustrate Selux’s sanding and welding techniques; paint processes and different levels of finishes and the assembly process of the luminaire. Attendance is limited to 20. Transportation will be leaving at 8:45 am from the Park & Ride located at Delaware Ave. & Normanskill Blvd., Delmar NY 12054 (Across Delaware Avenue from Delaware Plaza). There is parking onsite. We will arrive back at approximately 4:00 pm.
