Launch event for the new book edited by Georgetown Professor Adam Rothman and Middlebury College Professor Elsa Barraza Mendoza The Booth Family Center for Special Collections will host a launch event for the new book Facing Georgetown’s History: A Reader on Slavery, Memory, and Reconciliation, edited by Georgetown University Professor of History Adam Rothman and Middlebury College Assistant Professor of History Elsa Barraza Mendoza, on April 19 at 4 p.m. Facing Georgetown’s History draws on primary sources from the University Archives to document Georgetown’s tangled history with slavery. It also includes scholarship on Jesuit slaveholding in Maryland and at Georgetown, and reflections from descendants of the enslaved people owned and sold by the Maryland Jesuits. Facing Georgetown’s History was published by Georgetown University Press. Rothman and Mendoza will present highlights from their book in the Booth Family Center for Special Collections classroom on the fifth floor of Lauinger Library. The event will also include a pop-up exhibition of related documents drawn from the archival holdings of the Booth Family Center. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
