SILVER SPRING, MD — Montgomery Parks is expanding access to its athletic fields for youth and adult games of low- and medium-risk sports. Fields at local parks are currently available, according to county officials, and fields at regional and recreational parks will be available starting Sept. 1. Games cannot have more than 50 people. And tournaments are still prohibited. A sport's risk is determined by the Maryland Sports Commission Return to Play Committee Report. Low- and medium-risk sports include baseball, golf, archery, badminton, lacrosse, flag football, and volleyball. According to the report, soccer is a medium-risk sport. But Montgomery County will not be lifting restrictions on the sport until phase three. "We recognize that people are eager to get back out on the fields for game play, and we are pleased to be able to offer that opportunity now, with the understanding that the health and safety of park patrons and staff is our first priority," said Montgomery Parks Director Mike Riley. Athletic field permits are available for the fall season on a first-come, first-serve basis. Payment is due upon submission with each reservation request for general public use.
