MAY DAY 1:00-5:00PM - Sunday, May 1st. Go to TICKETS to RSVP & DONATE.
An open air, creekside festivity in Live Oak Park, North Berkeley to celebrate and honor YASSIR CHADLY and the gift of his presence over decades, as beloved magus of Berkeley’s city pools, spiritual guide and m’rockin' musician.
YASSIR is a Moroccan-American musician, imam, and professor of Sufism and Islamic studies.
There will be music, poetry, tributes, and dancing round a maypole!
The theme is water - enclosed, free-flowing, vital, endangered - from the wadis and hammams of Morocco to the waters and wetlands of San Francisco Bay.
•Live music by Yassir’s friends and fellow musicians. We will post details as they are determined.
•Running slideshow by aquatic photographer Raymond Holbert.
•Address by Peter Linebaugh, historian of May Day, the commons, and our watery globe.
•Bring family and friends!
•Bring your own picnic, lawn chairs and blankets. Please "PACK IT IN AND PACK IT OUT" as much as possible.
•We encourage you to walk, bike, use public transportation or rideshare to minimize the impact on the neighbors.
If you cannot make it to the event, you can still donate to Yassir's Appreciation Fund and Help Cover Event Costs Fund.
