Description
SILVER SPRING, MD — Some bus stops in downtown Silver Spring will soon have to temporarily move to accommodate construction of the long-awaited Purple Line.
Starting Dec. 1, crews will be working in and around the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center — forcing Ride On to modify 15 of its bus routes.
These are the Ride On routes that will be affected, according to Montgomery County officials:
1, 2, 8, 911, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 1721, 22, 28129Temporary bus stops will be located along northbound Colesville Road (between Wayne Avenue and Georgia Avenue), on the second floor of the transit center, and on East-West Highway and Colesville Road.
Routes on the second floor of the transit center will not relocate.
Once built, the Purple Line will connect the Bethesda and New Carrollton Metro stations. The 16-mile east-west light-rail line was scheduled to open in March 2022. But with a number of construction delays, officials say the Purple Line will now open in two phases — first in Prince George's County in late 2022, and then in Montgomery County a year later.
