Description

SILVER SPRING, MD — Starting Thursday, all Ride On passengers must wear face coverings in order to board the bus. It's one of the latest measures Montgomery County officials have implemented to help stem the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. In recent weeks, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) started recommending Americans wear face coverings to cut down on pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic transmission of the disease. The face coverings recommended are not surgical masks or N95 respirators, according to the CDC. Those critical supplies are reserved for doctors, nurses, first responders, and other frontline health care workers. Instead, Montgomery County residents should opt for face coverings made of cloth. Scarfs, bandanas, and t-shirts are all viable substitutes — as long as they fit snugly and cover the nose and mouth completely. Click here for the CDC's DIY face mask tutorial. County officials say face coverings are not a substitute for social distancing and traveling should only be for essential purposes.
