Contact Improv Class + Jam at The Center SF Join The Center SF for a playful evening of contact improv. Class will be from 7:30-9pm and then will flow directly into a jam until 10:30pm. In class, we’ll explore themes of weight-sharing, counterbalancing, signaling, listening, and everything in-between. The jam that follows is an opportunity to continue researching your movement & relational curiosities that sparked from class. First-timers and experienced dancers are all very welcome! CI classes at The Center will be offered by a rotating mix of Bay Area teachers. Merrick Jacob (she/her) is a lover of movement, continuously in awe of the body and its potential for unique expression, creativity, & authentic connection. Influenced by her background in figure skating, acroyoga, hand-balancing, and contact improv, she guides playful movement experiences as an opportunity for co-creation, exploration, and deep listening. She is a certified AcroRevolution Teacher & currently studying to become a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist with a focus in Body-Mind Centering (BMC) & Laban Movement Analysis. Say hi to Merrick here. SEBASTIAN. Sebastian Grubb is an award-winning dance artist and movement coach in San Francisco. He has performed with many local dance companies and choreographers since 2008, and toured extensively throughout the U.S. and overseas. He has practiced and taught multiple dance forms since 2006, especially Contemporary, Contact Improv, and Site-Specific dance. Sebastian's current focus is teaching applied anatomy and somatics to movers of all kinds via workshops that emphasize deep sensing, technical refinement, and community. www.bodywagging.dance RENÉ. René Alvarez (Oakland, CA) is a Contact Improvisation fanatic since 2000 and has learned from teachers such as Nancy Stark Smith, Sara Shelton Mann, Ray Chung, Martin Keogh, Frey Faust, Nita Little, Chris Aiken, Angie Hauser, Scott Wells, Alicia Grayson, Ronja Ver, Carol Swann, Brenton Cheng, Keith Hennessy, Karen Nelson, Andrew Harwood, Alito Alessi, Anna Halprin, KJ Holmes, Malcolm Manning, Mirva Mäkinen and Terry Sendgraff . René is influenced by Axis Syllabus, Flow/Fire Arts, Parkour and Motivity Aerial Dance. René teaches/curates two weekly CI classes in Berkeley. They have over 20 years of participation at Burning Man, currently with Camp Contact. René is an organizer for the West Coast CI Jam and the founder of InterKinected LLC, whose mission is to investigate and promote Contact Improvisation, through organization and sponsorship of classes, jams, festivals, intensives, laboratories, films, media and showings.
