Explore wedding fashion and female body image as it changed over time at this new exhibit.
The exhibit, entitled Bridal Bodies: A Fashionable Social History, 1890-1955, emerges from a collaboration between the Society and the Anthropology Department at SIU Edwardsville. Hayley Goebel and Evan Senat, two SIUE students, created this exhibit as an internship project under the direction of SIUE Anthropology Professor Cory Willmott.
Using our vast clothing collection, this exhibit explores how changes in fashion reflect changing societal views of the female body. It also provides a lens through which wider social and economic changes can be considered.
An opening reception for Bridal Bodies will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the Victorian Home Museum. A brief presentation by the exhibit team will take place at 6:30 P.M.
