SILVER SPRING, MD — Workers earning minimum wage in Montgomery County are getting a raise. Signed into law on Nov. 17, 2017, Bill 28-17 raises the minimum wage every year on July 1, until it reaches $15 per hour in 2022. The first pay raise will be in effect on Wednesday, July 1. How much it will be depends on the number of workers employed by the business. For employers with 51 or more employees, the county's minimum wage will rise to $14. Wages will increase to $13.25 for employers with 50 or fewer employees. A small employer — with 10 or fewer employees — is required to pay its workers $13 an hour. Employees ages 18 and under, who work under 20 hours per week, are exempt from this rate. They must earn at least 85 percent of the Maryland's minimum wage rate.
