Sunday CO-ED METAL Hike is one of the longest running and most prestigious hiking groups which started in Los Angeles. With over 400 consecutive Sunday hikes, from epic caves to beautiful waterfalls, we explore the hidden treasures to share with together.
The CO-ED METAL Hike is OPEN TO ALL. Feel free to bring yourself, your family, your spouse, your hiking enthusiast friends (METAL and Non-METAL), prospective members and sometimes your dogs (no dogs on this hike). ALL ARE WELCOME!!!

About the Hike
This trailhead offers access to many important features such as Tom’s Thumb, Windgate Overlook, Gardener’s Wall, Sven Slab, Mesquite Canyon and the Windmill Trail. Explore the Marcus Landslide Trail from here to learn all about the 2nd largest landslide in Arizona. Tom’s Thumb was the first of our trailheads on the north side of the McDowell Mountains.
Tom’s Thumb Trail consists of loose gravel terrain with very steep climbs, dramatic rock formations and an elevation gain 1,200 ft.
Directions
From Scottsdale Rd or Pima Rd, turn East onto Happy Valley Rd. Proceed about 2 miles past Alma School and turn right (East) onto Ranch Gate. Proceed to the end of Ranch Gate and then turn right (South) onto 128 St and you’ll arrive at the trailhead in less than a mile.
Lots of Free Parking and remember this is a Dog Friendly Hike
