NORTHPORT, NY — JoJo, a 6-month-old male, is the Northport Cat Rescue Association's Cat of the Week. He has black velvet-like fur. The rescue found JoJo on the street in a feral cat colony that was too tough for a kitten like him, according to Lora Wild, a volunteer with the rescue. He went to foster care and is now in the rescue's habitats at Petco Huntington, waiting for someone to adopt him. The cat rescue's volunteers had to work hard with JoJo to bring him out of his shell. "At first he was frightened and timid when it came to human interaction, although he loved to play with toys and other cats as well," Wild said. "Lately though, JoJo has shown a side to him that we were not sure we would ever get to see. He waits patiently for his human volunteer friends to come let him out for playtime. He talks to them. He headbutts them, stretches up for pets and wants interaction in the worst way. It is as if he knew he had to take the risk." JoJo has yet to receive even one application to for someone to bring him home. "Our volunteers have all fallen in love with him, and have each had their private conversations with him explaining that he needed to trust because it is his best chance to be adopted," Wild said. "So, with courage and strength and all four paws on the floor, he now stretches for those pets and purrs while getting them. He asks for love. He is silly and stares out at all the people walking by and has even tried to play with some of the dogs that come to visit." He loves treats, according to Wild. His favorite toy is the laser pointer, and he meows at it while chasing it. When it is time for our volunteers to put him back in his habitat, he gets very sad. "JoJo needs to feel freedom in his own home," Wild said. "We know the more love and affection he gets, the more he will give. He just needs a chance." JoJo is neutered, has all his shots, is litter box-trained, and micro-chipped and FELV/FIV negative. If you are interested in meeting JoJo, you may head to the Northport Cat Rescue website and fill out an application to let them know you would like to meet him or any of our wonderful kittens and cats.
