Catalytic Converter Thief Charged After Chase: Milford PD

MILFORD, CT — A man was charged after he cut the catalytic converter off a car on Baker Street early Wednesday morning, according to police. A resident called police around 3 a.m. and said a man was cutting the catalytic converter from a vehicle in their driveway. Officers quickly arrived and spotted a man on a bicycle with a catalytic converter under his arm, police said. The man, later identified as Anthony Machia, ditched his bicycle and fled on foot into the Jonathan Law High School athletic fields. Machia was eventually located with the help of Seymour police K9 Argus. Machia was found in possession of a small axe, saw blades, flashlights and other items, police said. He was charged with fourth-degree larceny and second-degree criminal mischief. He was held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
