HAMDEN, CT — Kathy Hoyt, who is running to represent the 17th district in the Connecticut state senate, has been endorsed by the Hamden Republican Town Committee. Hoyt, a real estate agent, is a lifelong Hamden resident and longtime member of the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce, according to a news release. She has also volunteered in the Hamden school system, the news release said. Hamden RTC members said they believe she will "produce the desired changes to our community." "Transparency, stability, and strength — these are the qualities which Hoyt will bring to the table as our next state senator," the Hamden RTC said in a statement. Derby RTC members endorsed Hoyt as well. Citing rising gas prices, they said "it is clear that we need change." "Our current senator has failed to deliver accountability or solutions to the myriad of issues our community faces, and Derby Republicans feel strongly that Hoyt will tackle these issues head on as our next senator," the group's statement reads. In 2020, Hoyt ran to represent Hamden in the Connecticut House of Representatives, though she was defeated by Rep. Joshua Elliott. Hoyt received 30.7 percent of the vote, while Elliott received 69.3 percent, according to Ballotpedia.
