GROTON, CT — Police have issued a warning to residents following incidents of car break-ins last month. Across the state, thieves have taken advantage of unlocked cars. Here was the advice police gave: "We sent an advisory out for our residents reference car breaks in our community last month. It is a continuing problem in our region. The chances of being a victim go down significantly with some really simple steps that we respectfully request our residents follow: 1) Lock always your car doors and lock your house door.2) Don't leave valuables unattended in a car where they can be easily seen and stolen. Never leave a purse in a vehicle. Lock your car always.3) Don't leave a vehicle unlocked with the key in the ignition and leave it unattended....ever.4) Actually befriend your neighbor, talk to them and if you are not home, and they are, and a package is to be delivered, have them grab it and safeguard it for you. You then can repay the favor. "Don't make it easy for a criminal to make you a victim. The City of Groton is not New York City, but it's not Mayberry either. As always if you see something say something and our in house dispatch is available 24/7 at 860-445-2451 to assist you. It's a partnership with the public we serve, and situational awareness and citizens taking proactive common sense steps helps keep our crime rate low and community safer."
