Here are the top three stories in Roanoke today: The historic Old Mill at Mill Mountain Zoo has a new authentic mill wheel. The historic mill was built on the mountain in 1755 after the land was granted to Mark Evans by King George II. The Zoo hopes to allow guests to visit the mill during its 70th-anniversary celebrations that start in July. (The Roanoke Star)Roanoke County Schools has earned the Best Communities for Music Designation for the 18th time. The county first earned the designation in 2002 after demonstrating outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students in the district. The designation is only possible since the district has some of the best performing arts teachers in the state, according to Superintendent Dr. Ken Nicely. (WDBJ)Roanoke Fire-EMS has determined the cause of a fire that occurred in the 500 block of Chestnut Avenue NW. The department has determined improperly discarded smoking materials to be the reason the blaze erupted. Crews got the fire under control within 20 minutes and the fire damage was estimated to be $10,000.
