Description

BOULDER, CO — A prescribed burn is scheduled to take place at the Ron Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain beginning Wednesday, the Boulder County Parks & Open Space Department announced Monday. The Parks Department will be working with the Sheriff's Office Fire Management Program to conduct the prescribed burn, weather permitting, through Friday, a news release said. If the weather permits county officials to conduct the burn, the park may be closed, according to the news release. If the weather conditions — including wind, temperature, relative humidity and air quality — prevent officials from conducting the prescribed burn, the park will remain open. The fire managers will monitor moisture levels and projected weather forecasts to determine if the conditions are safe to go ahead with the project, the news release said. If the conditions become unsafe once the burn has begun, fire managers will stop the burn. Though smoke and flames may be visible in the area for days, or even weeks, following the prescribed burn, officials urge Boulderites not to call 911 since a prescribed burn is not an emergency. Fire managers will continue to monitor the area to ensure that all the fires go completely out.
