ROCKVILLE, MD — A man was arrested and charged in connection with an armed carjacking that took place April 6, Montgomery County Police said in a news release.
Thomas Whiting, 23, was charged with motor vehicle theft, armed carjacking and the use of a firearm during a crime of violence, according to the release.
Rockville City Police officers responded to a call about a carjacking at around 9:45 p.m. April 6.
Police said a man walked out of his home and toward his red 2012 Toyota Corolla when he was approached by a man who pointed a black handgun and demanded the keys to his car. Authorities say the man handed them over and the suspect got in the Toyota and drove on Congressional Lane towards E. Jefferson St.
Police put out a description of the stolen car, and District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department saw it Friday in southeast D.C., the release says. When officers pulled the car over, Whiting got out and officers arrested him, authorities said. Police said there was a handgun in the center console of the car.
