GROTON, CT — A fundraiser has been started for the family of a Groton boater who recently died. Matthew Lyon was found dead by the Coast Guard on Oct. 31 He was reported missing after he departed from the Groton Elks Lodge and Marina the previous day. The GoFundMe fundraiser was set up by Stacey Gerrish Noreika and Christina Scala. "This weekend, the Lyon family suddenly lost their husband/father," Noreika and Scala wrote. "As a community we are heartbroken and want to provide any bit of support we can to Kim and her three daughters as they face this incredibly difficult journey." Lyon's children, Devin, Avery and Maerin, attended or are currently attending school in Groton. Money raised will help pay for education expenses. Lyon was born in New London and worked for Groton Utilities as a line foreman, according to his obituary. He leaves behind his children, wife Kimberly and four siblings.
