Arlington Man Tosses Window Washer's Safety Gear Off Balcony: Police

ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington man was charged with abduction and attempted malicious wounding on Tuesday after he threw a window washer's safety equipment out of reach, according to the Arlington County Police Department. At about 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, police were dispatched to the report of an assault in the 200 block of N. Garfield Street in the Clarendon neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, who said he was working as a window washer when he lowered himself onto the suspect's balcony, removed his harness and prepared to clean the windows. The man came out of his residence and began yelling at the window washer, according to police. The man then threw the victim's safety equipment out of his reach and pushed the victim, police said. A second window washer intervened, and the two were able to safely remove themselves from the balcony, according to police. Neither window washer was injured in the incident. Police officers arrested the man, David Bergendorf, 50, of Arlington on charges of abduction and attempted malicious wounding. He was held without bond, police said.
