New Brunswick BB Gun Shooting May Be Part Of TikTok Challenge

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Rutgers students walking near campus Saturday night were shot at with an airsoft or BB gun, which may be related to a TikTok challenge. The students, a group of four, were fired at from the car at around 8 p.m. while walking near the intersection of George and Bayard streets. One victims was injured, but he did not require medical attention. The car was described as a tan Toyota Sienna minivan that fled on Bayard St. toward Joyce Kilmer Avenue. New Brunswick police Capt. J.T. Miller told New Jersey 101.5 that Kevin Le, 20, of Manahawkin, was arrested in connection with this incident. He was taken into police custody Tuesday and was in possession of a battery-operated CO2 Airsoft-type rifle at the time of his arrest. There is a challenge currently on TikTok asking teens to conduct "drive-by shootings" where they fire a BB gun or pellet gun at other teens walking by. Teens across the nation have been injured from being shot in the face and even a 6-year-old was injured when he or she was shot by an Orbeez gun in Montana, according to this local Montana news report.
