SOMERVILLE, NJ – The Somerset County Department of Health invites those who have been affected by cancer and their caregivers to attend "Cancer: Thriving and Surviving", a free six-week workshop hosted in conjunction with the Morris-Somerset Regional Chronic Disease Coalition and Sister2Sister.
The goal of the program is to help participants build a more positive outlook about their experience and improve their state-of-mind and overall health. Topics to be discussed include communicating effectively with family, friends, and healthcare professionals; how to make appropriate decisions about treatment and complementary therapies; and coping with negative emotions such as feelings of isolation, frustration, and uncertainty. Additional topics will include managing pain, poor sleep, and the benefits of exercise to help increase flexibility and endurance.
The workshop will be held in-person at the Sister2Sister Headquarters in Somerset weekly on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., on April 20, 27, and May 4, 11, 18, 25. Preregistration is requested by Monday, April 18. Light refreshments will be provided. Participants are encouraged to attend all six classes, as each class builds upon the previous week.
