Press release from the City of Austin: April 12, 2022 A meeting Tuesday, April 12 will involve the South Line Working Group and focus on the area that includes the William Cannon Station and Slaughter Transit Center. The second meeting, held Monday, April 18, will focus on the stretch from Hemphill Park near the University of Texas to the North Lamar Transit Center. At both meetings, route planners will present design updates and options they're considering as the project progresses. Public feedback is encouraged and will help shape the next phase of the design process. The meetings will be held via Zoom in both English and Spanish. Additional language services can be provided with advanced notice. Register for the Orange Line Working Group meeting to discuss William Cannon Station to Slaughter Transit Center here, and for the meeting to discuss Hemphill Park Station to the North Lamar Transit Center here. Meetings begin at 5:30 p.m. on both days. One of the goals of the pilot project is to increase access to mobility options like scooters, ebikes and a free neighborhood shuttle in a part of the city that previously lacked access to these services. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is holding a series of meetings to periodically receive feedback on the I-35 Capital Express Central project, which focuses on the eight-mile stretch from US-290 East to SH-71/US-290 West. The next CapEx VOICE (Volunteer Opportunity in Community Engagement) meeting will be held in person at Huston-Tillotson University. This will be the first CapEx VOICE meeting since TxDOT made significant design changes (https://austintexas.gov/edims/pio/document.cfm?id=374273) in January to Alternative 3 in response to feedback from the community and the City of Austin. The Orange Line project is a 20-mile light rail transit (LRT) corridor that would travel along Lamar Boulevard and Congress Avenue from the Tech Ridge Park & Ride at Howard Lane south to Slaughter Lane. This workshop will focus on the area that includes the William Cannon Station and Slaughter Transit Center. The Mobility Committee reviews land use as it concerns mobility, all transportation modes including roads, aviation, public transit, pedestrian programs, bicycle programs, ground transportation, taxicab regulation, core transit corridors and related matters.
