In an effort to curb the ongoing drug and overdose epidemic, San Diego will be holding National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, kicking off April 30. "Unwanted or expired prescription drugs can be dangerous to the community by falling into the wrong hands," the San Diego Sheriff's Department said in a statement. The rate of overdoses has skyrocketed over the last few years, especially in teens. "The increases are almost entirely due to illicit fentanyl, which is increasingly found in counterfeit pills," addiction researcher Dr. Joseph Friedman said. "These counterfeit pills are spreading across the nation, and teens may not realize they are dangerous."A list of locations for anonymous drop off is in the link! (City News Service) 38-year-old man dies in SD County Jail, the seventh this year. "Jail medical staff determined the adult male needed to be transported to the hospital, for further evaluation," said sheriff's Lt. Chris Steffen. "While the incarcerated male was pending transfer to the hospital via 911, he went into medical distress."From 2006 to 2020, 185 people have died in the SD County jail, making it one of the highest figures in California.
