HOBOKEN, NJ —A 31-year-old Fair Lawn man was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and refusal to submit to a breath test by Hoboken police on Sunday night after he was found asleep at the wheel in a traffic lane, police said.
Police said that Officers Damien Bates and Marco Grossman responded to Observer Highway and Washingon Street shortly after 8:50 p.m. on a report of a man sleeping behind the wheel of a car in the lane of traffic.
The officers met up with Sgt. Dennis Figueroa Jr. and officer James Barbro, who were already speaking with the man.
The man was administered a field sobriety test and then was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.
He was transported to headquarters, where he refused to provide breath samples, police said.
Based on his actions, he was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and refusal to submit breath test, police said.
He was later released to a responsible party.
