FREEHOLD, NJ — Perkins Restaurant and Bakery in Freehold has officially closed its doors after 30 years of service.
Perkins, located at 3445 US Highway 9, in Freehold, provided its customers with friendly service and classic comfort dishes.
Ted Petrou, the owner of the Freehold Perkins, began his career as a dishwasher and busboy, then as a general manager, before establishing his own business. "His decision to retire has been circulating for some time but now he deemed it as the right time to clock out. He has made 30 years of memories with his customers and staff," said Kara Petrou, Ted's daughter.
Petrou said he "thanks everyone for their support throughout the years and for allowing him to create a staple in the community as a Family Breakfast Eatery that everyone would go to throughout the week and on the weekends with their loved ones."
The Petrou family will shift their focus to their other business, the Marlboro Diner, which is located at 143 US Highway 9 in Marlboro.
"He will be spending some of his free time at his other family establishment, where his daughter lives up to the legacy he has left behind at Perkins so you can visit him there," said Kara Petrou.
There are currently five other Perkins locations open in the Garden State.
With nearly 300 company-owned and franchised locations in 32 states and two Canadian provinces, Perkins has transformed into the nation's leading family restaurant.
