Police Provide Update On Dog Ban At Greenwich Park

GREENWICH, CT — Dogs are still not permitted at Greenwich Point after test results revealed that distemper had been found within the raccoon population there. On Friday, two weeks after the initial alert, police provided an update on their Twitter page and confirmed that dogs are still not permitted in the area. According to police, there will also be a police officer assigned to the gatehouse in the area on both Saturday and Sunday to enforce the continued restriction. "Greenwich Point Park will remain closed to dogs as per the order of the Director of Health until further notice," police said Friday on Twitter. In an email Friday, Lt. Mark Zuccerella said the town's parks and recreation department is still working with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and a licensed wildlife management firm to deal with the issue. Zuccerella said Greenwich Police will be assisting in this effort, and there will be informational signs posted at the intersection of Shore Road and Sound Beach Avenue. "As conditions change and are warranted, we will provide further updates on the restriction," Zuccerella said in an email. Instead, residents are asked to contact the Greenwich Public Safety Communications Center at 203-622-8004.
