6 Speed Cameras Added Near Providence Schools

PROVIDENCE, RI — Providence police activated six new speed cameras near Providence schools, the department said Wednesday. The new speed cameras bring the city's total to 20, which police use to ticket drivers for speeding violations in school zones. Speed cameras operate between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., on school days. Drivers who are flagged by the cameras will get a warning for their first 30 days of operations. Beginning June 6, motorists will be fined $50 per violation. Police said the cameras were installed in the following locations: Plainfield Street (Laurel Hill Annex School)773 Chalkstone Ave. (Nathaniel Greene Middle School)Hope Street (Hope High School)Mount Pleasant Avenue (Mount Pleasant High School)Bridgham Street (Providence Career and Technical Academy)Branch Avenue (E-Cubed Academy).
