Press release from the Kendall County Government: KENDALL COUNTY, IL — Judges of election are responsible for the proper and lawful conduct of the election in the polling place. The success of the election depends on those individuals who serve as Election Judges. The judges share the responsibilities and duties in each precinct. Judges help to ensure the rights of voters are protected and are vital to the conduct of efficient and honest elections. Duties include: Opening the polling place in the morning and closing it at nightResponsible for all election materialsProvide assistance to votersCheck in votersEnsure that only qualified voters are permitted to vote and that each qualified voter is permitted to vote only one time and that all votes are cast in secretDistribute ballotsMaintain order in the polling place throughout the dayTally the vote after the polls are closedCertify the election results in that precinctTo be eligible to serve as an election judge, you must be: A citizen of the United StatesA resident of Kendall CountyA registered voterBe able to speak, read, and write in EnglishBe of good understanding and capable of performing dutiesElection Judges arrive at the polling place at 5:00 a.m. and work until the supplies are packed up after the polls close at 7:00 p.m. on election day, June 28. Election Judges are required to work the entire day. Certified elections judges receive $150.00 for the day.
