LEMONT, IL — A Lemont home was destroyed by fire on Monday night and left one resident with minor burn injuries, fire officials said. The home, located on South Frontage Road, was determined to be uninhabitable by fire officials, which spent more than four hours on the scene of the fire, according to a news release. The fire started at 10:43 p.m. on Monday when the blaze quickly spread from the first floor of the single-family home to the second level, fire officials said. Firefighters spent an hour extinguishing the fire, which was made worse by weather conditions, fire officials said. Fire crews spent an additional three hours on the scene investigating the cause of the blaze. Fire officials were able to create openings in the ceilings of the home before a fully involved attic fire was found. Fire officials have not released the cause of the fire and have not announced how much damage was done to the home. The fire required 35 firefighters from 10 surrounding fire departments, officials said. Lemont fire officials remind local officials to have working smoke detectors in place and to have an escape plan in place in case of emergency. The fire remains under investigation by Lemont fire officials.
