Description
GREENWICH, CT — A Cal Ripken youth baseball league in Greenwich now has its own, private practice field in a residential neighborhood following a recent approval by the town's Planning and Zoning Commission, writes the Greenwich Time.
The field is located in the mid-country section of town in the 50 block of Clapboard Ridge Road, and originally was built without a permit by Cal Ripken coach Ray Bartoszek in 2018.
He reportedly was cited for the lack of a permit in 2019 and told he would need P&Z approval for a special permit. The commission recently approved the special permit with conditions, despite some complaints from neighbors that the field is a nuisance.
The conditions include only wooden bats can be used, the field only can be used three times in a two-week period, and practices can only last two hours until 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and until 5 p.m. on Saturdays, among other stipulations.
