GREENWICH, CT — Greenwich native Phil Kemp, recently voted captain of the Yale University hockey team, has signed a three-year contract with the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, the team and league announced this week. Kemp, a defenceman who has been a star on the Yale team for the past three seasons, was originally drafted in the seventh round, 208th overall, by the Oilers in 2017. The 2020-21 Yale season was canceled earlier this month due to the coronavirus pandemic. Terms of the entry-level contract Kemp signed were not disclosed, but the pact will run through the 2022-23 season. The Greenwich Time writes that Kemp played a couple of seasons at the Brunswick School in Greenwich before joining a United States National Team Development Program. Kemp, who shoots right, is listed at 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 210 pounds. He played in 32 games for Yale in 2019-20, during which he scored 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists). Over his three seasons for Yale, he has played in 88 games, scoring 27 points (nine goals, 18 assists).
