PORTLAND, OR — The sixth day of the trial of Nancy Brophy who is accused of killing her husband continued for a sixth day on Tuesday. Prosecutors called six witnesses in an effort to show that they looked at other people but no leads led away from Nancy Brophy. Detective Antony Merrill started the day, continuing where he left off on Monday, talking about the surprise of seeing what appeared to be Brophy's van in surveillance video from around the time that her husband was killed. It was also revealed that the van had been spotted by the Oregon Culinary Institute where her husband, Daniel Brophy, was a chef/instructor, about 30 minutes earlier than previously disclosed. Nancy Brophy had told detectives that she had never left home the morning that her husband was murdered – until she heard about the shooting. Merrill also talked about other people in the area that morning and how none of them seemed to pan out. On cross-examination, the defense question that assertion, trying to make the point to the jury that the killer could have been someone other than their client was the killer. Another detective, Rico Beniga, testified about being back at Brophy's home in Beaverton when he got a call from Merrill asking him to take photos of Brophy's van. Jurors also heard about how detectives tracked down how they used information from the state's Department of Motor Vehicles to determine if it could have been another van. They also heard from a police bureau analyst who testified about tracking data from Brophy's cell phone over several months. The trial continues on Wednesday.
